From 23 July 2026, the Australian Hydrogen Council will operate as the Australian Industrial Decarbonisation Council, or AIDC.
The change reflects the evolution of our work and the increasingly connected decisions shaping whether Australia retains, decarbonises and grows its industrial capability.
AIDC will bring together industrial asset owners, project developers and the businesses providing the technologies and services needed to support industrial decarbonisation.
Our work will start with real industrial assets – whether a facility, project, precinct, corridor or supply chain – and examine the factors shaping investment decisions.
We will use this practical industry experience to inform policy development and support more informed discussion between industry and government about the settings needed for credible industrial decarbonisation investment.
AIDC carries forward the work of the Australian Hydrogen Council. Its legal entity, governance and existing membership arrangements remain unchanged.
Hydrogen will remain an important part of AIDC’s work, particularly for producing ammonia and methanol, developing future shipping fuels, producing green iron and decarbonising alumina refining.
Through more than seven years of work with members and other stakeholders, we have seen how investment in these pathways is affected by policy settings, infrastructure, market conditions and the timing of major capital decisions. The broader AIDC remit allows us to apply that experience across industrial decarbonisation.
This work takes on added importance as Australia prepares for the 2026 Safeguard Mechanism review and faces the broader task of translating its climate commitments into credible industrial investment.
