Melbourne, Australia: The Australian Hydrogen Council (AHC) welcomes the Australian Government’s announcement today to back the green metals transition by allocating $750m from its $1.7bn Future Made in Australia Innovation Fund to support new low emissions technologies for metal manufacturers.
The $1.7bn Future Made in Australia Innovation Fund has now been largely allocated adding to earlier announcements by the Australian Government of $500m to support clean energy technology manufacturing and $250m to support low carbon liquid fuels. Another $200m is yet to be allocated.
The Fund will support the development of cutting-edge new technologies, as well as funding pilot and demonstration projects, that can lower emissions, improve productivity and revitalise plant and equipment.
CEO of the Australian Hydrogen Council Dr Fiona Simon said:
“Hydrogen has a role to play across the Future Made in Australia priority sectors, and we are delighted to see Australian Government funding now announced for all sectors through the FMIA Innovation Fund, Hydrogen Headstart, Green Iron Investment Fund, Green Aluminium Production Credit and other measures to support critical minerals.
“Funding certainty is critical for unlocking private investment, adding value and supporting decarbonisation of existing Australian industries such as the $150bn metal exports industry. This is also reflected in the priorities set out in the National Hydrogen Strategy.
“It is positive to see the Australian Government recognise these opportunities and the need to back Australian industry and innovation in a globally competitive market, while also strengthening sovereign capability and harnessing our comparative advantages amidst higher trade policy uncertainty.”
