Melbourne, Australia: The Australian Hydrogen Council welcomes the release of the Climate Change Authority’s review of the potential technology transition and emissions pathways for the Australian Government to reach net zero emissions by 2050.
Hydrogen and renewable fuels are key to electricity and energy, transport, industry and waste, agriculture and land, and resources – five of the six sectors where the opportunity exists due to the rapid development of emerging low emissions technologies.
The review proposes a range of strategies and actions for the Australian Government, including fit-for-purpose policy interventions and regulation, market-based mechanisms, and government finance to leverage private investment. It addresses the deployment of net zero infrastructure and strengthening social licence, meeting workforce needs, and the importance of bilateral decarbonisation agreements with key trading partners.
These, and other recommendations in the Review report, align with AHC’s comprehensive position paper submitted to the National Hydrogen Strategy refresh process, which we released in August 2023.
