AHC congratulates Ministers and welcomes continuity of leadership

Melbourne, Australia: The Australian Hydrogen Council (AHC) welcomes the new Ministry announced by Prime Minister, The Hon Anthony Albanese MP. This includes the re-appointment of The Hon Chris Bowen MP as Minister for Climate Change and Energy, and the promotion of Senator The Hon Tim Ayres to Minister for Industry and Innovation, and Minister for Science.

CEO of the Australian Hydrogen Council Dr Fiona Simon said:

“AHC congratulates the Ministers and looks forward to working in close partnership with the Australian Government to progress its second term agenda and deliver on the economic and regional benefits that hydrogen and derivatives can offer our nation.

“We are thrilled to have The Hon Chris Bowen MP continue his leadership in the Climate Change and Energy portfolio and look forward to working closely with him. Minister Bowen has been instrumental in driving Future Made in Australia initiatives and other supportive policies that recognise the importance of hydrogen and its role in the production of derivatives such as green ammonia and methanol, green iron and alumina.

“His leadership is pivotal as we focus on reducing the commercial gap for hydrogen, growing national and regional capabilities and boosting our energy system resilience and fuel security.

“We also congratulate Senator The Hon Tim Ayres on his appointment to Minister for Industry and Innovation, and Science. His leadership in these portfolios is a natural progression from his pivotal role in progressing the Future Made in Australia policy last year.

“Hydrogen used directly for industry and transport, and products made with hydrogen can all be made right here in Australia. They are key to decarbonising global heavy transport such as shipping and aviation, agriculture including fertilisers, and steelmaking.

“The progression of Hydrogen Headstart 2.0 and Future Made in Australia initiatives, and importantly driving forward stackable industrial demand side policy to achieve decarbonisation targets are all top of mind for investors and our trading partners.

“We also thank The Hon Ed Husic MP for championing industry development and progressing Australia’s growth agenda, in particular his work on the Industry Growth Program and Industry Partner Organisation initiatives.”
