AHC congratulates inaugural Net Zero Economy Authority CEO on appointment

Melbourne, Australia: The Australian Hydrogen Council today congratulates David Shankey on his appointment as the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of the Net Zero Economy Authority.

Mr Shankey has significant senior leadership experience in energy and climate policy, and joins the Authority after 10 years as Deputy Director General of Queensland’s Department of Energy and Public Works.

The Net Zero Economy Authority aims to ensure workers, industries and communities can seize the opportunities for Australia’s net zero transformation.

This mandate aligns with the National Hydrogen Strategy objectives around ensuring communities are aware of and realise the benefits of hydrogen.

The Authority will work with communities, state, territory and local governments, regional bodies, unions, industry, investors and First Nations groups to realise the benefits of decarbonisation.

Mr Shankey will work closely with Dr Iain Ross AO, Chair of the Net Zero Economy Authority. An independent board is expected to be announced shortly.

Dr Fiona Simon, CEO of the Australian Hydrogen Council said:

“Australian Hydrogen Council congratulates David Shankey on his appointment as the inaugural CEO of the Net Zero Economy Authority.

“David has tremendous experience and appreciation of the role that hydrogen has in the transition to net zero including the opportunities for our regions. He moves into this role after a decade in Queensland Government where he led the development of its Energy and Jobs Plan, which recognised the vital role of hydrogen.

“We look forward to working closely with David and his team at the Net Zero Economy Authority as they progress key activities.”
